The first in Europe that combines lens of Fresnel and photovoltaic silicon cells of last generation. With its recent connection to the network of distribution of electrical energy of Iberdrola one has become first its sort, not only into Spain, but into Europe, it informed the Spanish Ministry of Industry today.
One is a photovoltaic solar installation that, as opposed to a conventional one, uses silicon much less offering a high efficiency. The technological innovations that incorporate allow their operation to very high temperatures, without damage of their yield or its benefits in the time.
The development of this installation is fruit of an agreement of collaboration signed by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), through its Instituto de Energía Solar, the Basque company Guascor Photon and the Instituto para la Diversificación y Ahorro Energético (IDAE), that has financed the project with 200,000 euros.
The performance registers in the actions of promotion of the innovation that contemplates the Plan of Renewable Energies 2005-2010, that it has like photovoltaic objectives to reach 400 MW of power installed in 2010.
The plant is located for its technical and scientific pursuit in the photovoltaic proving ground of the Solar Institute of Energy, in Madrid. Year has predicted an electrical production guaranteed of 43,089 kilowatts hour/, which is equivalent to the consumption of 22 families.
The installation, property of the IDAE, needs 250 times less silicon than a conventional photovoltaic system to produce the same energy.
It constitutes a very important evolution since one is the first unit of high concentration that settles, it analyzes and it explodes in Spain. In addition it is first in Europe that combines lenses of Fresnel and photovoltaic silicon cells of last generation, with later contacts that avoid the sombreamiento of the active surface.
Costes more competitives
Most of conventional photovoltaic systems they use silicon exposed directly to the light to produce electrical energy. With the new technology of concentration the possibility of obtaining very competitive costs in sufficient volumes of production, since is opened the silicon substitution is made by other materials economic than they make a concentration of the incident energy on the photovoltaic cell. This supposes the commercial opening of a new one via industrialist for the photovoltaic sector that will reduce the costs drastically, indicated the Ministry of Industry.
The innovating technology of Guascor Photon incorporates an integrated system photovoltaic of high concentration that concentrates the light on small photovoltaic cells specially designed to support more than 250 suns. These cells have been developed in the Valley Silicone by companies highly specialized in which the mentioned Spanish company participates and also it tries in multiple facilities in operation in Arizona, Nevada, California and Texas.
At the moment, the systems developed by Guascor Photon reach a degree of concentration of 400x.
